自清末至民国初年,在西学东渐的势态下,无论是统治阶层和文化精英,亦或是西方教会机构和中国画师,都致力于教育改革。这时期的美术教育有四个特点:“经学”转向“西学”、图画列入学堂章程;“图画”由“实用性质”转向“美育”;商业性质西画培训机构的出现;中国画教学出现。厘清这四点,可以清晰的看到时代转换大背景下美术教育前后变化的整体状况。

From the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China, under the trend of the eastward spread of Western learning, whether it is the ruling class and cultural elite, or Western church institutions and Chinese painters, are committed to educational reform. The art education in this period has four characteristics : ‘ Confucian classics ’ turned to ‘ Western learning ’, and pictures were included in the school statutes ; ‘ Picture ’ has changed from ‘ practical nature ’ to ‘ aesthetic education ’ ; the emergence of commercial western painting training institutions ; chinese painting teaching appears. To clarify these four points, we can clearly see the overall situation of the changes before and after art education in the context of the transformation of the times.
